Master's Message
June 2007
Dear Brethren,
When installed as Worshipful Master of this Lodge, I was required to take an obligation. The requirements of the obligation are very straight forth, and do not demand undue effort to observe. One of the requirements of the obligation, however, can indeed be a daunting task. The Worshipful Master is required to dispense Masonic Light and Knowledge to the brethren. What is Masonic Light and Knowledge, and where can it be found? Masonic Light and Knowledge can be many things to different people. Does perfection is ritual constitute Masonic Knowledge? To an extent it does, but ritual does not necessarily supersede the daily inner workings of the Lodge, such as charity to those in need. I have, in the past, heard of Freemasonry being described as esoteric and exoteric. These words make me very uncomfortable, for they suggest that masons meet on different levels. The study of deeper meanings of Masonic thought may be interesting, and may constitute Masonic Light to some, while a strict obedience to our obligations is of a greater importance to others. Freemasonry can indeed be many different things to different people. As long as you keep the most excellent tenets of our fraternity in your heart, any Masonic study or endeavor will continue to spread the cement of Brotherly Love and Affection. Remember we meet on the level and part on the square.
Fraternally,
James T. Lind
Worshipful Master
