What is Freemasonry?

Dear Brethren,

In 177th and 18th century England, Masons defined their fraternity as "a system of morality, veiled in allegory and illustrated with symbols." Today we might define it as "an organized society of men who symbolically apply the principles of operative masonry and architecture to the science and art of character building." Freemasonry teaches its members to be better men. Masonry tries to build a better world by making "better men out of good men," by strengthening their character, improving their moral and spiritual outlook and broadening their mental horizons.

People's lives revolved around being a Mason. It was not something that was lightly taken. After all we were a "Secret Society!" It meant you were something special, something out of the norm. Something a little above all others. How do we show this difference? By our actions and support.

Our fraternity is based on friendship and brotherly love. It is also based on YOUR participation. We are to support one another along with the fraternity and its auxiliary organizations as well. Freemasons contribute millions of dollars and hours of time to charitable organizations throughout the year. I ask you, "What do you contribute to Freemasonry?"

We wear the ring, we display the decals, we wear the shirts, we pay the dues, but, do we "do the time?"

Get involved.

Fraternally,
Edward T. Gasior
