Master's Message
December 2000

"If you think you can do a thing or think you can't do a thing, you're right." -- Henry Ford

As my two years of being the Master of North Arlington Lodge come to a close, all I can say is a big "Thank You." Two years is a long time to be the Master. I felt that I could do it and I have done it to the best of my ability. Being the Master can be achieved only with the help of the officers and the members of the Lodge ó I am glad to say that I have a great group of people who have been there for me.

To the new Master Ed Gasior: "The best to you and may your time as the Master be filled with good times and joy. To the new line of officers and "the white apron members": please be there for our new Master. Our Lodge is held together with the help of all. We all need to show our loyalty and appreciation for the people who are willing to work for the good of all.

Finally, I started my years of being the Master with a quote in all of my messages. I will finish my years with some quotes that are all meant to make us think:

"Successful is the person who has lived well, laughed often and loved much, who has gained the respect of children, who leaves the world better than they found it, who has never lacked appreciation for the earth's beauty, who never fails to look for the best in others or give the best of themselves."

"Those who preserve their integrity remain unshaken by the storms of daily life. They do not stir like leaves on the tree or follow the herd where it runs. In their mind remains the ideal attitude and conduct of living. This is not something given to them by others. It is their roots ... it is a strength that exists deep within them."

"Tentative efforts lead to tentative outcomes. Therefore give yourself fully to your endeavors. Decide to construct your character through excellent actions and determine to pay the price of a worthy goal. The trials you encounter will introduce you to your strengths. Remain steadfast .. and one day you will build something that endures; something worthy of your potential."

"I expect to pass through this world but once. Any good I can do, or any kindness that I can show, let me do now, for I shall not pass this way again."

Finally brethren, "It's not over until it's over" and for me, "it is over." Best Wishes for the Holiday Season and Happy New Year to you and to your loved ones.

Fraternally,

John Lacki, Jr.
Worshipful Master
